Richard Matthews KC led the three counsel team that prosecuted Marks & Spencer Plc and others in regard to the control of and exposure to asbestos during refurbishment works to stores. The case followed a lengthy investigation into the Marks & Spencer Plc, refurbishment contractors and asbestos removal contractors undertaking work in various stores On 27 September 2011, Marks & Spencer Plc was fined £1 million.
